FIVB volleyball legends entertain crowds at showcase #CopaCourts

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, August 6, 2016 - The FIVB welcomed an impressive ensemble of volleyball and beach volleyball legends to the FIVB’s showcase courts on the iconic Copacabana Beach in Rio on Saturday. Julius Brink, Vladimir Grbić, Maurício Lima and Randy Stoklos - who have collectively won five Olympic medals - took part in exhibition matches, helped run clinics and met with fans, reinforcing the FIVB’s commitment to making volleyball the number one family sport entertainment at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

Copa Courts

London 2012 Olympic gold medallist Julius Brink from Germany was joined by Serbian Olympic volleyball champion from Sydney 2000 Vladimir Grbic, two-time Olympic gold medallist Maurício Lima from Brazil and two-time World Tour winner Randy Stoklos from the US. The athletes helped officially mark the opening of the FIVB’s showcase beach volleyball courts with an entertaining exhibition match which received great support from Cariocas and tourists on the iconic Copacabana.

The Copa Courts, situated in front of the Volleyball House, will be open to the public throughout the duration of the Games in Rio and will host a range of exciting activities including Viva Vôlei and bossaball clinics for the whole family. 

FIVB President Dr. Ary Graça said: “Volleyball is a fun universal sport, accessible to all and enjoyed by generations of fans worldwide and these courts will showcase this. We are looking forward to welcoming fans of all ages to the courts across the course of the Games and strongly encourage everyone in Rio to join in with the volleyball party! I would like to thank the athletes for all their time and hard work.
