Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, August 6, 2016 - FIVB President Dr. Ary S. Graça F° today signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the International School Sport Federation (ISF) as the International Federation reaffirmed its commitment to developing volleyball at grassroots level.
The aim of the MoU is to facilitate a future collaboration with educational institutions around the world to engage even more school kids with volleyball and the sport’s values. The project initiatives that are to be developed according to the Memorandum are the following:
• Transfer of knowledge and “train the trainers” programmes for physical education teaches.
• Festivals and sport engagement.
• Promotion of the interaction between the ISF National School Sport Federations and the FIVB National Volleyball Federations.
Speaking after the signing ceremony, the FIVB President said: “The FIVB is working hard to ensure that volleyball is a fun universal sport accessible to all and enjoyed by generations of fans worldwide. We are committed to developing the sport in countries all around the world and it is important to start this development from grassroots at schools and later at universities.
“The Memorandum of Understanding with the International School Sport Federation that we have signed today is a great step towards our vision which is to establish volleyball as the number one family sport entertainment in the world.”
Following the signing ceremony, President Graça met with the President of the International University Sports Federation (FISU), Oleg Matytsin, to discuss the possible ways the FIVB could engage with the millions of university students worldwide as well as other projects both organisations could cooperate on.
