FIVB lights up Copacabana with spectacular LED net display

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, August 12, 2016 - Volleyball legends were out in force tonight entertaining the crowds with an exhibition match on the CopaCourts involving former and current volleyball players who helped showcase the FIVB’s LED net which is revolutionising the presentation of volleyball events.

A large crowd gathered for the match at the CopaCourts in front of the Volleyball House on the iconic Copacabana beach.  Serbian Olympic volleyball champion from Sydney 2000 Vladimir Grbic, two-time Olympic gold medallist Maurício Lima from Brazil and five-time world champion American beach volleyball legend Randy Stoklos joined Egyptian history makers Doaa Elgobashy and Nada Meawad for the LED net extravaganza.

The FIVB puts high importance on technology and innovation as part of its commitment to become the number one family sport entertainment in the world and the LED net has become a key part of this.

It featured for the first time at a finals competition at the 2015 FIVB Volleyball World League Finals in Brazil and the FIVB is looking to make it a regular feature at events to enhance the spectator experience.

The combination of volleyball legends, technology and the contagious carnival atmosphere on Copacabana made for a great sight and was in keeping with volleyball’s theme at Rio 2016 as the must-see sport.
