Walkenhorst and Ludwig keeping their minds in the present at they continue Rio run

Rio de Janeiro, August 9, 2016 – Germany’s Laura Ludwig and Kira Walkenhorst recorded their second win at the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games when they beat Canada’s Jamie-Lyn Broder and Kristina Valjas 2-0 (21-17, 21-11) at the Copacabana Beach Arena on Tuesday.

Here’s what they said after the match…

Kira Walkenhorst, Germany
“We always have close matches against them and I am really happy that we played pretty well against them and only lost our focus at a few points in the first set, but all in all it was a good match from the beginning to the end.

“We go from game to game and enjoy this match and be happy with how it was, but from tomorrow we have to focus on the next match against Italy (Marta Menegatti and Laura Giombini). They are good players but we don’t know what they are together.”

Kristina Valjas, Canada
“We disappointed in our play and there were too many unforced errors, that’s not how we play. Tonight wasn’t our night. The Germans came out strong and were nearly flawless and we have to hand it to them, they had a great game.

“We have a lot to learn from this experience and I think we’ll come back better next time.”

Jamie-Lyn Broder, Canada
“I think it is a combination of a strong team, they had a strong serve and a strong defence that obviously caused us some trouble for us tonight, but once we minimise the errors on our side I think it would equal the playing field a little more.”
