Rio de Janeiro, August 7, 2016 – Poland’s Kinga Kolosinska and Monika Brzostek began their Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games campaign by beating USA’s Lauren Fendrick and Brooke Sweat 2-1 (14-21, 21-13, 15-7) at the Copacabana Beach Arena on Sunday.
Here’s what they said after the match….
Monika Brzostek, Poland
“That was a really good start, well maybe not the best start because we lost the first set. But we were able to come back into the game and impose our tactics and we won. So we are really, really happy.
“When we were warming up before the game on the warm-up court it (the wind) was much slower, maybe because of the centre court. But when we were on centre court it was horrible and there was just this corridor that blew through really, really fast. We know it would be tough during the match and both us and the American team had huge problems receiving the ball and controlling the ball.”
Kinga Kolosinska, Poland
“We were a little bit nervous of course, but the wind was the biggest problem for us throughout this game. In the first set it was harder for us, but then we focused on where we were serving and served at Fendrick and allowed us to get back in control.”
Lauren Fendrick, USA
“We’ll do a little re-gen in the gym and watch some video and get ready to take on the top side (Brazil’s Larissa Franca and Talita Antunes). They are the home town favourites and a great team and we’ll have to do our best and that’s what we plan to do.”
