Ludwig and Walkenhorst ready for familiar rivals

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, August 13, 2016 –  Germany’s Laura Ludwig and Kira Walkenhorst booked their place in the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games quarterfinals with a 2-0 (21-19, 21-10) win over Switzerland’s Isabelle Forrer and Anouk Verge-Depre at the Copacabana Beach Arena on Saturday.

Here’s what they said after the match…

Laura Ludwig, Germany
“We go from game to game and the next game will definitely be tough against the Canadians (Sarah Pavan and Heather Bansley). We have played them a lot and the matches are always hard and I think we have lost more than we won. We just have to go out and enjoy the whole arena.”

Kira Walkenhorst, Germany
“It was a tough first set. It was really close. We were a few points in front, but then we gave it up again. The second set we served pretty good and everything was working.

“We are getting more and more into our rhythm, but I think we can score more points and play better for the next match, but I think it is a good thing.”

Isabelle Forrer, Switzerland
“Of course it is disappointing with the loss it is always difficult with emotions, but overall it was a really great tournament to play here. We were fortunate to play next to the Brazilian games when the stadium was full and had a huge crowd and it was a really amazing atmosphere.”

Anouk Verge-Depre, Switzerland
“In the first set we came back from 16-12 and put on pressure on them and we on same level, but in the second set they served well and played better than us and we couldn’t play our game and find our rhythm.

“They are a really good team and you have to accept that. It is a little disappointing that in the second set we couldn’t keep that level.”
