Double the fun for Italian stallions

Rio de Janeiro, August 8, 2016 – Italy’s Alex Ranghieri and Adrian Carambula made it two wins from two at the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games when they beat Canada’s josh Binstock and Sam Schachter 2-1 (21-18, 14-21, 15-11) at the Copacabana Beach Arena on Monday.

Here’s what they said after the match…

Alex Ranghieri, Italy
“It is going well and we are growing, but we are waiting for the difficulties that lie ahead on the pitch with the conditions and the teams we will face on the court, but we will do our best to be ready for these.

“We are happy and now are waiting the third match against Alison and Bruno and will be ready to take the court.

“Clearly it is special because I am half Canadian on my mother’s side.”

Adrian Carambula, Italy
“As you saw today it was a battle and I wasn’t very efficient offensively and I put our team in trouble. So we’re happy with the win because to go deep in the tournament you need to win these type of matches, the one where you don’t play well.”

Josh Binstock, Canada
“We know we can beat anybody in the world, we just have to play consistently. We have spurts of greatness there, but we need to find more rhythm and consistency at the end and make the right adjustments.”
