Doppler and Horst happy to play party poopers

Rio de Janeiro, August 8, 2016 – Clemens Doppler and Alexander Horst made up for their opening loss at the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games when they beat Brazil’s Alison Cerutti and Bruno Schmidt 2-0 (21-11, 21-17) at the Copacabana Beach Arena on Monday.

Here’s what they said after the match…

Clemens Doppler, Austria
“We wanted to find our game again because Saturday wasn’t our game. We knew they had different weapons and they have one of the best blockers in their side and one of the best defensive players in the world.

“We’ve played so many times against each other that we knew we didn’t have to create a completely new game, but that we needed to do the things we do well.

“We put a lot of pressure on them with a big serve and it was a big weapon for us.

“They are good friends of our, but of course we wanted revenge from Porec (Major Series final defeat) and of course it felt very good to win against them.”

Bruno Schmidt, Brazil
“They had a not so good start to the competition, but they were pretty smart and they took the pressure of themselves and just enjoyed the event.

“We almost turned the score at the end, but today was their day and we just have to accept that and go on with the competition, it’s just beginning.”
