Zhu Yunli sparks China to first victory

 

China played good floor defence against Italy on Monday

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, August 8, 2016 – China recorded bounced back from a five-set loss to Netherlands in day one to beat Italy in straight sets 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-16) on Monday based on a well distributed attack with three players in double digits.

Middle-blocker Zhu Yunli had 12 points, including three blocks and one ace, as the most outstanding player for the winners. She was effective in 50% of her spike’s attempts. Zhu Ting added also 12, with two aces, and Zhang Changning contributed 11 points in the victory.

Paola Egonu had a match-high 22 points as the lone Italian in double figures. Serene Ortolani was next with just seven points, all in attacks.

China evened its record at 1-1 in Pool B, while Italy dropped to 0-2 after committing 24 unforced errors, doubling up the total of 12 made by the Asian team.

Zhu Ting, who scored with six spikes in the first set, gave China a two-point lead (16-14) they never relinquished.

Omaha 2015

Zhu landed two consecutive aces early in the second set and China went on to take the set and a 2-0 lead despite the strong showing by Italy’s Egonu.

China team had an easier path in the third set with a well distributed offence and good net defence. Xang sealed the match with a spike in the one-sided event.
