China's Zhu Ting (2) blocks Puerto Rico's Karina Ocasio
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, August 10, 2016 – China swept Puerto Rico 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-19) with a flurry of good serves in the first match of day three in the women’s volleyball tournament at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games on Wednesday.
It was the second victory in a row for China in Pool B after losing in five sets to the Netherlands on the opening day. Puerto Rico is winless in three outings.
Hui Ruoqi scored three of China’s seven aces in the match and the winners got 24 points from errors of the opponents.
Zhu Ting led China with 20 points, with a 68 percentage of efficiency in the attack, as the best player in the match. Yuan Xinyue contributed 9 points in the victory, including two aces.
Aurea Cruz and Karina Ocasio had 9 and 8 points, respectively, for Puerto Rico.
Puerto Rico led 16-13 in the first set, but committed two faults and Yuan Xinyue scored two straight aces to put China on the path to a 25-20 first set result.
China scored with three aces in the second set by Zhu Ting, Hui Ruoqi and Xu Yunli en route to a 25-17 decision.
Hui Ruoqi landed two more aces helping China to a more than comfortable 7-0 advantage in the third set. China took it 25-18.
