Zaytsev ties Olympic serving record with 127 kph missile

 

Ivan Zaytsev joins fellow Italian Savanni and German Grozer as Olympic serving speed record holder.

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, August 17, 2016 - Italy's Ivan Zaytsev got himself in the record books in the men's volleyball quartefinals match against Iran today at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.



The 27-year-old, who was top scorer in Italy's 3-0 sweep of Iran that saw the European side through to the semifinals, had a service clocked at 127 kilometres per hour, tying the Olympic serving speed record.

Christian Savani, also of Italy, and Gyorgy Grozer of Germany had both registered 127 kph records in London 2012 and were the joint record-holders coming into the Rio 2016 Games.

Zaytsev made 15 serves today against Iran, scoring two aces.
