Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, August 11, 2016 – Russia recorded a tournament-high 17 blocks en route to a straight-set victory over Egypt which prompted Captain Sergey Tetyukhin to praise the job of teammate Artem Volvich and the entire team.
Tetyukhin called the Russian blocking a fantastic one while saying Volvich’s game was at his top in the record-setting triumph.
Sergey Tetyukhin, Captain of Russia: Today everyone did their job and our tactics worked perfectly and according our plan. Everything is all right in our team and our blocking today was fantastic with Volvich at his top. The match also gave us the chance to use some of our reserve players and they showed they are capable of doing a good job. Egypt is a good team, only that we played very well.
Vladimir Alekno, Coach of Russia: It was a very important match for us today and we did what we needed to do. We did our job as we should work and not to talk. I think Mikhaylov did a good job today and his dynamics were very good. I really don’t want to talk much about this match and concentrate in the ones coming up.
Ashraf Abouelhassan, Captain of Egypt: There is a big difference between the two teams. Russia is one of the best teams in the world and the defending Olympic champions. I am sure we will have better performances in our next matches in the group.
