Stars of Rio: Saori Kimura

 

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, August 3, 2016 – At 30, Saori Kimura will be playing in her fourth Olympics after Athens 2004 (5th), Beijing 2008 (5th) and London 2012 (bronze) where she was instrumental in helping her country return to the podium for the first time since 1984.



In addition to the 2012 Olympic bronze, she won another at the 2010 FIVB World Championship, as well as gold at the 2007 Asian Championship. The Saitama native was top scorer of the 2010 FIVB World Grand Prix as well as being named best server twice in the Asian Championships. 

After seven years with Toray Arrows, winning four titles in her homeland’s V. Premier League, Kimura played for a couple of seasons in Turkey, earning a European Champions League title with VakifBank Istanbul in 2013, before moving cross-town to Galatasaray. She returned to Toray Arrows in 2014.
