Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, August 8, 2016 - Serbia and Puerto Rico play each other for their second match at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Their women’s Pool B encounter at the Maracanazinho on Monday starts shortly after 5 PM local time.
Serbia made a running start on Saturday, securing an impressive 3-0 (27-25, 25-20, 25-23) victory over fellow Europeans from Italy. Brankica Mihajlovic and Tijana Boskovic hammered out 21 and 20 points, respectively. “We played well, but I think we can do better in the succeeding matches,” said young Boskovic humbly.
Puerto Rico were on the opposite end of success on the first competition day. They suffered a 0-3 (17-25, 22-25, 17-25) shutout from fellow NORCECA team of the United States. Stephanie Enright scored 13 times and was Puerto Rico’s most prolific player in that match.
However, the Caribbean squad has no intentions of folding up the banners so soon. “I am glad to put this game and the nervousness about playing at the Olympics for the first time behind us,” stated captain Yarimar Rosa. “Hopefully we can play better in our next matches.”
