Poland overpower Cuba to finish second in Pool B

 

Poland finished pool play with a 4-1 record good for second place in Pool B

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, August 15, 2016 – Poland stormed past Cuba 3-0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-17) to claim second place of Pool B in the men’s volleyball tournament at Rio 2016 Olympic Games with a 4-1 win-loss record.

Cuba left the tournament with a 0-5 mark and 1-12 in sets, with the only set won against Russia in their first match in the competition.

Omaha 2015

Poland outclassed Cuba in all the scoring categories with advantages of 39-30 in spikes, 7-1 in blocks and 6-2 in aces. 

Michal Kubiak was the top scorer for Poland with 12 points in the victory, followed by Piotr Nowakowski who finished with nine.

Osniel Rendon stood out for Cuba with 11 points in the loss.

The Cubans offered some resistance in the first set when they trailed only by two points at 19-17 only to see the Polish dominate the rest of the way.

The second and third sets, Poland dominated without opposition from start to finish with their serve and block game.
