Mihajlovic and Boskovic lead Serbian win over Italy

 

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, August 6, 2016 – Serbia beat Italy in straight sets 3-0 (27-25, 25-20, 25-23) in the last match of day one at the women’s volleyball tournament at Rio 2016 Olympic Games on Saturday night at Maracanazinho Stadium.

Tijana Mihajlovic and Tijana Boskovic were the main offensive weapons for Serbia with 21 and 20 points, respectively, while Milena Rasic added 11, including three aces. 



Italy’s Paola Egonu had 19 points, including three blocks and one ace, as the only player of her side that reached double digits in the scoring charts.

Serbia claimed the first set against Italy 27-25 after a sensational battle decided by one ace by Martina Rasic and a net touch fault by the Italian Guicci.

Serbia took a 2-0 lead after dominating the second set 25-20. Mihajlovic and Boskovic led the Serbian forces and Egonu landing some big spikes from the Italian side.

Mihajlovic’s spike finished the third set 25-23 and the match despite a comeback effort by the Italian side led by Egonu.
