Last chance saloon for Cameroon

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, August 14, 2016 - Cameroon will have one final chance to pick up a win in Rio when they face Korea in their final match.

Korea have won two (Japan, Argentina) and lost two (Russia, Brazil) and have already qualified for the knockout phase. They put up a great fight against Russia, losing 3-1 (25-23, 23-25, 25-23, 25-14) and even pushed Brazil in their final set (27-25).

Cameroon were soundly beaten by Brazil, Japan and Russia but put up a terrific fight against Argentina, eventually losing 3-2 on August 12.

Cameroon will have a tough time handling Korean icon Kim Yeon Koung, who is the second-highest scorer in the tournament, while her teammate Yang Hyo Jin is at No. 9. But Cameroon also have big hitters in Laetitia Moma Bassoko and Christelle Tchoudjang at Nos. 10 and 11 in the scoring chart.

On the plus side for Cameroon, they have the top-ranked blocker in Rio in Stephanie Fotso. Korea’s Yang is at No. 5 in the blocking stats but is the top server in the tournament with 10 aces.
