Japan's Yuki Ishii led her team with 18 points against Argentina
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, August 14, 2016 – Saori Kimura, the captain and star player of Japan women’s team hopes offensive variety and good defence can neutralize the size of United States team in their quarterfinals match next Tuesday.
Saori Kimura, Captain of Japan: I am very happy to go to the next round of the tournament even though today I didn’t do very well. I will try to have a better performance in our next match against the United States.
On facing a tall team like USA:
In our pool we played against big teams like Russia and Brazil that also have very tall players and high blocking. We have to find our ways to neutralize that with variety of our attacks and use our quickness and defence.
Masayoshi Manabe, Coach of Japan: It was a good battle against Argentina and we are glad to go the next round in the quarterfinals. We will do our best in the next round. We need to forget about all those past matches and take the next match as it is the first of the tournament.
Guillermo Orduna, Coach of Argentina: Congratulations to Japan for advancing to the quarterfinals. I think Argentina played well, especially in two sets. We have showed growth game after game and finding our level of play. I am very satisfied with our play in our debut at the Olympic Games.
