Hui Ruoqi: I am glad to continue in Rio

Chinese Zhu Ting scored 28 points to lead the victory over hosts Brazil in quarterfinals

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, August 16, 2016 – China’s coach Lang Ping gave credit to her players for showing character and battling hard for success in front of a partisan Brazilian crowd at Maracanazinho on Tuesday evening.

Meanwhile, the captain Hui Ruoqi said they adjusted to the situation and after winning the crucial match she is content to continue in Rio.

Lang Ping, Coach of China: Except for the first set, it was a spectacular match, a show of volleyball. I want to congratulate my players for not quitting. We managed to find de way of winning. It was a crucial match and each team had 50-50 chances on winning. Brazil is one of the best teams in the world and I told my players that for winning the match we would need to play hard for every point. That’s what they did under difficult environment for young players who showed character and consistency.

Hui Ruoqi, Captain of China: We all are very happy with this victory against a team like Brazil, the top team in this tournament. We are working together as a team and improving with each day. I am very glad to continue in Rio de Janeiro. It was a crucial match for both teams.

On the crowd

The Brazilian fans are very enthusiastic and cheer for their team but that didn’t affect our stability. The Brazilian team is very resilient and had the support of the local fans, but we adjusted to the situation.

Jose Roberto Guimaraes, Coach of Brazil: We played an outstanding first set, exceptional, with few errors. Good serves with the blocking and defence working perfect. Starting in the second set, China improved their game and started to cause damage in our reception with good serves. We couldn’t put in action our attack down the middle. We came back to take the fourth set, and the fifth could have gone either way.
