Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, August 7, 2016 - Argentina scored a convincing - and what could prove a very decisive in the race for the quarterfinals - victory as they opened their Rio 2016 campaign at the Maracanazinho in front of an enthusiastically noisy crowd of fans from across the border.

Facundo Conte scored 21 points, including 5 stuffs and an ace plus a 65% attacking efficiency (15/23), to emerge top scorer of the day as he led the South Americans to their impressive win.

Iran, who are making their debut Olympic appearance at Rio 2016, fought hard to stay in the game in the first two sets - indeed cancelling two Argentina set points in the second - but ran out of steam in the third.

Argentina outserved Iran 7 aces to 3 and also dominated blocking and attacking, while limiting the Asians to just 36% in reception.
