Clash of Titans in Day Three of Men’s Tournament

 

Argentina succeeded against Iran and Russia in first two matches

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, August 10, 2016 – The undefeated teams of Argentina and world champions Poland are pitted against each other in a first-place battle of Pool B in day three of the men’s volleyball tournament at Rio 2016 Olympic Games on Thursday.

The appealing match scheduled at 15:00 (local time) is one of six contests to take place at Maracanazinho Stadium of Rio de Janeiro as the men’s event approaches crucial moments of definition.

The South American side is coming off the heels of an inspiring four-set victory over Olympic defending champions Russia, while Poland prevailed in a stressful five-setter against Iran in their last contest.

The young squads of Iran and Cuba will entertain the crowd in the earliest match of the day at 9:30 with both teams seeking for their first victories of the tournament.

Russia and Egypt will be under the spotlight in the second match of the day fresh from victories on day two after inauspicious debuts last Sunday.

Two emerging volleyball powers will square off in the afternoon session as the impressive Canada takes on France.

Italy and Brazil, the two unbeaten squads in Pool A will enter the evening with chances of grabbing spots in the quarterfinals of the tournament if both succeed in their tests.

The Italians, who subdued France and United States in their previous encounters, go against winless Mexico but the home squad has to clear the big obstacle represented by a USA team eager to test the flavor of a victory.
