China prepare for Olympic year

 

China celebrate winning the FIVB Volleyball Women's World Cup in September 2015

Beijing, China, January 19, 2015 - The China women’s volleyball team are scheduled to assemble in Beijing on January 20 for an intensive training camp ahead of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

The China Volleyball Association has confirmed the presence of 26 players from 11 clubs from Beijing, Tianjin, Liaoning, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Fujian, Shandong, Henan, Sichuan and the Army. Five players including main attacker Hui Ruoqi, Zhang Changning, Xu Ruoya, libero Chen Zhan and opposite Gong Xiangyu are from Jiangsu. Four players are from the Army, three from Tianjin and Fujian, two from Beijing, Liaoning, Zhejiang and Shandong, one from Shanghai, Henan and Sichuan respectively.

Head coach Lang Ping, who steered her team to victories at the 2015 FIVB Volleyball Women's World Cup in Japan and at the 2015 Asian Women's Volleyball Championship in China, will be under pressure to do the same at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

“The team is formed by the elite players on a national scale. Although players are from different clubs, they unite as one looking to the future. In the run-up to the Rio Olympics, we will put the preparation for Rio as our priority and make best use of the half year before the Rio Olympics to find and solve our problems so as to achieve a good result,” said Lang.

In Rio, China will be joined by hosts Brazil, World Cup runners-up Serbia, European Olympic Qualification Tournament winners Russia, South American Olympic Qualification Tournament winners Argentina, NORCECA Olympic Qualification Tournament winners USA and six teams still to be confirmed at qualification events later this year.
