Argentina cruise to straight-set win over Egypt

 

Argentina dominated Egypt in their preliminary round match in Rio 2016 Olympic Games

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, August 15, 2016 – Argentina overpowered Egypt 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 25-20) to record four victories in the preliminary round in Pool B of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games men’s volleyball competition at Maracanazinho on Monday.

Facundo started the Argentine offence going and ended up with 12 markers, while he allowed his team-mates Sebastian Sole, Cristian Poglajen and Pablo Crer to take care of the rest of their offence and defence. Egypt’s Abd Elhalim Mohamed scored 10 points on a losing effort.

Argentina led Egypt on all fronts with 41-31 spikes, 8-2 blocks and 5-2 aces.

Argentina jumped to a 14-7 lead in the opening set, as Conte and Poglajen unleashed its powerful attack and service game. Egypt could not control the Argentine attack surge and conceded the set at 25-16. 

Egyptian hitters Abou and Omar Hassan tried to get their side going with strong spikes, but the South American side dominated. Argentina’s Pablo Crer and Sebastian Sole mounted a tough wall against Egypt, which allowed them to gain a good lead. Bruno Lima delivered the set win with a spike 25-19.

Argentina got its toughest challenge from Egypt in the third set, as Abou and Badawy Mohamed Moneim powered the offence. Egypt took the lead briefly at 16-15, but Argentina were quick to recover and built their largest lead in the set at 23-19. Argentina completed the sweep after a powerful backrow attack from Ezequiel Palacios to end the third set at 25-20.
