Stars of Rio: Maret Grothues-Balkestein

 

Maret Balekstein-Grothues in a spectacular dig as she leads The Netherlands to bronze at the 2016 FIVB World Grand Prix and now sets here eyes on medal in Rio 2016.

Lausanne, Switzerland, July 23, 2016 - The Netherlands captain Maret Grothues-Balkestein is looking forward to hard work in preparation for Rio 2016, but is enjoying every momement, as her team gets ready to take on Korea for some friendly matches before taking off for the 'Cidade Maravilhosa'.

The 27-year-old from Almelo, best server of the 2010 FIVB World Championship, has won silver medals with The Netherlands at the 2009 and 2015 European Championships and has now set her eyes on an Olympic medal.

She was inspired watching, as an eight-year-old, her country's men's team win gold at the Atlanta 1996 Olympics and now wants to lead The Netherlands to another Olympic medal. "It's difficult, but we want that medal," she says.
