Menegatti and Giombini off the mark, against Egypt duo

Rio de Janeiro, August 9, 2016 – Italy’s Marta Menegatti and Laura Giombini recorded their first win at the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games when they beat Egypt’s Nada Meawad and Doaa Elghobashy 2-0 (21-10, 21-13) at the Copacabana Beach Arena on Tuesday.

Here’s what they said after the match…

Marta Menegatti, Italy

“It was a very emotional match for us. They are a young team, I think they played a good game, and we were not underestimating them. We have more experience and could control the game better.

“I think today, no matter who was on the other side, we would have had the chance to beat anyone.

“We are trying to discover each other match after match. We are very close outside the (beach volleyball) court too, so that helps.”
