Rosario, Argentina, June 26, 2016 – Venezuela’s women will be represented at the Olympic Games for the first time after they won the CSV Continental Cup on Saturday.
Countries are represented by two teams at the Continental Cup and matches are played over the best of three rubbers and Venezuela were represented by sisters Rebeca Pazo and Olaya Pazo and Norisbeth Agudo and Gabriela Brito.
The Venezuelan Volleyball Federation will now have to decide which if the two teams will represent them at the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games.
Rebeca and Pazo won the first rubber against Argentina’s Julieta Puntín and Irene Verasio and were then leading Maria Julia Benet and Maria Zonta before injury forced Benet to withdraw to hand Venezuela the victory.
“This is the reward for strong and determined work to qualify for the Olympics,” Rebeca said, before Olaya added, “hopefully qualifying will help beach volleyball grow, it is a moment of great happiness.”
Argentina, Uruguay and Columbia’s women will now battle it out to have one last chance to reach Rio 2016 at the final Olympic qualifiers in Sochi, Russia, from July 6-10 when they conclude the tournament on Sunday.
