Unique Maracanazinho semifinal atmosphere captured on social media

 

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, August 20, 2016 – Fans, athletes and personalities have been flocking to the Maracanazinho in their thousands to watch the world’s biggest volleyball stars battle for an Olympic medal. They have been sharing their thoughts about the impressive venue across social media.

Dutch beach volleyball star Madelein Meppelink left the Copacabana beach volleyball arena behind her and headed to the Maracanazinho for USA's semifinal against Italy in the men's contest. She still preferred the iconic venue on the beach however! 

Max Litchfield, Rio 2016 Olympic swimming finalist for Great Britain, also enjoyed his first volleyball experience, taking in Brazil's semifinal against Russia. 


 
 
Fans have also been loving the Maracanazinho. Some met their heroes… 





 
While others were enjoying the unique atmosphere, which included a fair amount of fan engagement. 


 
One supporter even thought the women’s semifinals upstaged the great Usain Bolt. 


 
Olympic and world champion former Brazil star Nalbert has been commentating at the hall and has been loving every second. 



Italian fencer and London 2012 silver and bronze medallist Diego Occhiuzzi was also on hand to support his compatriots as they took on Russia earlier in the tournament during the group stages. 


While pool play also offered the chance for members of the media to soak up the atmosphere. 




There is little doubt that the Maracanazinho has lived up to all expectations during the Olympics.
