Stars of Rio: Zhu Ting

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, July 30, 2016 - At just 21, China’s star outside hitter Zhu Ting has been the driving force behind the Asian team’s recent successes, which includes a silver medal at the 2014 FIVB World Championship and gold at the 2015 FIVB World Cup, which directly qualified China for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

She was called to China’s youth national team in 2011, winning a silver medal at the FIVB Girls’ U18 World Championship that year, followed by gold at the FIVB Women’s U20 World Championship in 2013. Zhu has been earning individual awards at world and continental competitions since her junior days. Most recently she was named to the Dream Team of the 2014 FIVB World Championship as Best Outside Hitter and was also the top scorer of the competition. She was named Most Valuable Player of the 2015 FIVB World Cup.

Born in Zhoukou, in Henan Province, Zhu has mostly played for Henan Volleyball, helping the team earn promotion from the B to the A Division of China’s League. She also had a brief spell with Guangdong Hengda. The 2016-17 season will be her first abroad, when she joins Turkey’s VakifBank of Istanbul.
