Bangkok, Thailand, July 7, 2016 – FIVB President Dr. Ary S. Graça F° met with international referees at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games Referee Preparation Seminar at Golden Tulip Sovereign Hotel on Thursday with just 29 days to go until the opening ceremony of the event.

The seminar intends to continue the vision of President Graça to develop and improve all aspects of the sport. The activity coincided with the 2016 FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix Finals, where the referees, teams and officials are making their final preparations for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

“I am pleased to be here to continue my aim to take the sport of volleyball to new heights,” President Graça said. “The World Grand Prix Finals provide an excellent platform and an equally competitive atmosphere in preparation for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.”

President Graça advised the top-level referees to seize the opportunity to take their skills and expertise further.

“As we know, the referees have a tough and crucial responsibility to endeavour towards fair play and good sportsmanship,” President Graça said. “Your improvement as officials of the game should also harmonise with the continuing development of the sport.”

President Graça also emphasised the importance of honing their communication skills and processes as a means to better facilitate their judgment.

The video challenge system, referee headsets and tablets will be in use throughout Rio 2016, improving not only the spectator experience but also assisting in the officiating of matches.
